SpecTips - Help Eliminate Competitors by Specifying Type IV PVC or KEE HP

Controlling the Spec? Specify Type IV PVC or KEE HP.

Often, when trying to write or modify a PVC or KEE HP specification, it’s difficult to limit competition without there being an easy way for them to break the spec. One of the ways to successfully limit competition is to write a performance specification. These specs are harder to break because you can hang your hat on performance.

One of the performance specifications is included in ASTM D4434 Standard for PVC. In that standard, materials are classified into three types: Type II, Type III,and Type IV. The main differences between these types are breaking strength, tear strength, and elongation. By specifying the strongest membrane type –Type IV,our PVC andKEE HP–you can limit the other manufacturers, since most offeronly Type III (lower strength).

Utilize the Type IV vs.Type III demo kits that you received from Carlisle. Use the material in the kits to show specifiers the difference between Type III and Type IV membranes by performing a tear test. The difference is real and can be easily understood after witnessing the hand tearing of the membrane. Then use the Type IV specification examples to include in specsto help limit your competition.
