SpecTips: Integrated Roof Edge and Gutter Systems for Complete Protection

Integrated Roof Edge and Gutter Systems for Complete Protection

The roof edge is only as strong as its weakest component. While fascia and coping systems have long been governed by ANSI/SPRI ES-1 requirements, gutter systems have historically been treated separately and often designed, sourced, or fabricated outside of the roofing system scope.

This fragmented approach creates risk. Even with a properly designed roof assembly, untested or non-integrated gutter systems can compromise perimeter performance, introduce liability, and create gaps in warranty coverage. With the adoption of ANSI/SPRI GT-1 into the International Building Code, gutter systems are now held to defined performance standards, but they are still frequently overlooked or disconnected from the overall roof system design.
Carlisle completes the connection by bringing the entire roof perimeter, edge metal and water control, all under one roof.

Carlisle offers a full line of prefabricated edge metal and water control systems, including GT-1 tested gutter assemblies, that are designed to work together as a complete, integrated solution. These components are engineered, tested, and detailed as installed. This ensures compatibility, performance, and code compliance at the most critical point of the roof system.

When specified together, these systems can be included in Carlisle’s Edge-to-Edge Warranty, providing single-source coverage for the roofing system to include edge metal and gutter systems. The result is a simplified specification, reduced coordination risk, and complete accountability from one manufacturer.

Instead of managing multiple vendors and uncertain perimeter performance, designers can reduce risk for building owners and contractors by specifying a GT-1 tested gutter system as part of a single-source, fully integrated roof system.
Spec Tip

In 3-Part Specifications – Part 1 “General” include the following for the gutter systems:
  • Gutter System must be GT-1 Certified, under “Informational Submittals” section.
  • GT-1 Certification Certificate must be included in the submittal package, under “Informational Submittals” section.
  • The Gutter System must be included in roof manufacturer’s Total System Warranty, under “Warranty” section.
